Scenario
What is the longest period a resident can serve as a committee member? Any restriction?
Mythbusted.
The members of Committee shall be elected from Annual General Meeting (“AGM”). In every AGM, all members of the Committee shall retire and they are eligible to be re-elected as members subject to the condition that no Committee members shall hold office for more than 3 consecutive terms pursuant to Clause 2(6) Second Schedule of the Act.
There is no specific clause in the Act in relation to the restriction to become a member of Committee. The basic requirement is an individual who is a strata unit owner or a co-strata unit owner of a parcel, at least 21 years old, not in a capacity as a proxy and not being elected as a member for the past 3 consecutive terms as stated in Clause 2(6),(7), and (8) Second Schedule of the Act.
